Pelargoniums

PELARGONIUMS ORDERED DISPATCHED IN WEEK COMMENCING 27TH MARCH 2017

The Species Pelargonium is a half hardy shrub first collected in South Africa and brought to Britain in the mid seventeenth century by sailing ships from the Dutch East Indies Company.

We now have four distinct groups of Pelargonium from no more than 20 different species, from over 200 collected and by the hybridisation done by head gardeners of wealthy landowners in the 18th century. From spontaneous sporting, sub groups have developed, such as Angel, Double Zonal, Miniature, Dwarf, Cactus and Stellar.

Most Pelargoniums like a sunny aspect and can be grown in pots, hanging baskets, window boxes and open ground. In the right compost and fed regularly with a high potash feed they will flower from spring right through to late autumn. If protect from frost during the winter months they will continue to thrive for many years. All mail order pelargoniums are grown and sent out in 6cm biodegradable pots, and are ready to pot into their final positions.

Fibrex Favourites. As many of our regular customers know, since the dawn of mail order, we have only taken orders for spring delivery Pelargoniums up to mid-April. However, due to popular demand we have specially selected out of the many varieties of Pelargoniums that we grow, our favourites, which we are calling Fibrex Favourites. This is a selection that we believe give the best all round performance in growth, foliage and flowering. More importantly Fibrex Favourites will be available to order from April 25th through to the end of July, subject to availability. Orders for any of the other Pelargoniums grown on the nursery will be available for delivery in autumn 2016.

Nomenclature: The Botanical name of the plants featured in this section is Pelargonium. We do not use the name Geranium at all, although they are often referred to as this. The name Geranium rightfully belongs to a group of hardy herbaceous plants native to Great Britain, Northern Europe and North America.
